POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died when the car he was driving collided with the central reservation of the A441 Alvechurch Highway, hit a lamp post and came to rest on the other side of the road.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon and police have named the victim as James McGeown, aged 46, from Bromsgrove.

A passing ambulance found Mr McGeown, the only person in the vehicle, unconscious and his condition quickly deteriorated as he went into cardiac arrest.

After releasing him from the vehicle, a blue Nissan Almeria, they immediately gave him CPR.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed another ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board were sent to the scene and joined those already trying to save the man’s life.

A WMAS spokesperson said: “Advanced life support continued on the man at the roadside but sadly, despite the teams’ best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Anyone who either witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle travelling along the A441 to call 101, quoting reference number 0384s 170315.
