POLICE are on the hunt for the Leamington football fan who was punched in the face by a Redditch teenager at a game between Redditch United and Leamington FC on Wednesday, April 27.

The match at the Valley Stadium, on Bromsgrove Road, went to penalties which Leamington won and a small number of their fans invaded the pitch.

Police believe a young Redditch fan then assaulted one of the Leamington supporters, punching him and pushing him over.

While officers were dealing with the incident the victim left the scene and police have now released CCTV footage to try to identity him.

They spoke to the attacker who is currently helping them with their investigation.

After the match about 30 fans from each side were goading each other at the roadside resulting in 15 officers being deployed to prevent further trouble.

A police spokesperson said: “It is clear that a small minority of spectators were intent on causing disorder on the night and due to the good planning of both clubs this has been well managed.

“The police have acted and intervened when needed and it is sad that the minority spoilt the enjoyment for the majority of fans watching a fantastic game of football.

“The police will be reviewing CCTV and will work with both clubs to ensure we deal with any criminal offences that have occurred during the night. We would appeal to anyone who has any video footage or witnessed any incidents during the game to contact the police.

“Redditch United has done everything possible including the employment of additional security staff and the police are thankful for both clubs support in this matter.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on the non emergency 101 number or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
