MORE than twenty police officers have been investigated for improper use of social media in the last four years leading to two dismissals.
A Freedom of Information request has revealed 23 officers from West Mercia Police have been accused of breaking the force’s guidelines of the use social media sites.
There are currently two live cases including one for an inappropriate post online and the other for sharing information.
Only four of the incidents were withdrawn or found to warrant no action but 11 others, including two constables and an officer ranking as an inspector or above, received management action.
The two who were dismissed were found having an inappropriate relation through social media sites, one being a constable and one a member of police staff.
Detective Chief Inspector David Gooosen, Professional Standards for Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police said: “We hold our officers and staff to the high standards that the public expect of us, both in their personal and professional lives and this includes the use of social media.”
