Police raid Redditch home over suspected firearm

ARMED police have raided a home in Redditch after they received reports of a fire arm at the property yesterday (Tuesday).

Officers were called at 3.20pm by concerned residents who thought they saw a gun in the house on Lodge Road. At about 8pm police searched the home dressed in bullet proof vests armed with guns and tasers having cleared the street.

They found an Air-Soft rifle, a type of BB gun, which is similar in appearance to an actual firearm, at the home but police are now reassuring the public there is no danger to the community and the item is for recreational use.

Inspector Darren Webster said : “I would like to reassure the community that the priority of all our officers is to protect the public from harm. This means taking appropriate action based on information received to address any potential threat as quickly and safely as possible.

“In this case the report was made in good faith, but the item was found to be for recreational use only. We will always take appropriate action based on the perceived level of threat and that was done in this instance.”

A video of the incident has been put on social media and has gone viral with more than 1,000 views in less that 12 hours.
