Primrose patient's meeting with Alan Titchmarsh is a dream come true

A DREAM came true for a Redditch Primrose Hospice patient when she got to meet her hero – gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh.

Maragaret, aged 87, was at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival to see the charity’s triumphant garden project when the popular presenter, who she has always longed to meet, made it a day to remember.

She said: “It was one of the best days of my life.

“I was so emotional, I was first in the queue and shaking at the prospect of meeting him.

“When I spoke to him he was really lovely.

“We had a chat, he signed my book for my birthday and then gave me a kiss.

“I was filled with happy tears – it was a day I will never forget.”

Margaret also said she wanted to thank the staff at Primrose for arranging the trip, and particularly Alex, a trainee social worker at the hospice, for looking after her and pushing her round all day in her wheelchair.

The day was filled with sunshine and patients got to see all the show gardens, and enjoyed a picnic while listening to live music from the bandstand.

To mark the occasion, Alex presented Margaret with a framed photo of them both meeting Alan, which Margaret said she would ‘treasure to the end of her days’.

Garden designer Martyn Wilson and Primrose staff were also delighted to show Alan around the garden, which was chosen by the 100,000 plus visitors to the show for the prestigious ‘People’s Choice Award’, along with a RHS bronze medal.

The Primrose’s Day Hospice looks after patients with life-limiting illnesses four days-a-week.
