A MURAL depicting some of Redditch’s hidden history is set to brighten up an underpass in the town.
The artwork, in Union Street, depicts the role of Redditch firm High Duty Alloys in developing the structure and skin for Concorde and parts for Thrust SSC – the world record breaking car.
The images, recreated by local artist Andy Mills, sit alongside well known aspects of the town including Royal Enfield Motorcycles and Forge Mill.
Redditch residents are also celebrated including music legend John Bonham and top junior BMX rider Libby Smith.
Now the mural is finished an anti-graffiti coating will be painted over the art to stop vandals defacing it.
The artwork was targeted by criminals just last month when they sprayed swastikas, offensive language and lewd images on it.
Hidden History is the latest to be completed as part of Redditch Borough Council’s Roadway Arts Scheme and it is the largest mural in the borough standing at 3metres high and 45metres long.
The project aims to build pride in the borough and encourage people to use public transport, cycle or walk past these works of art.
Coun Yvonne Smith, responsible for community safety on Redditch Borough Council, said: “I am delighted to see another one completed as not only do they show how great our town is, they really do brighten up the day.”
