Proud to show their memories

FAMILY and friends will pay tribute to a popular borough hairdresser by having scissor tattoos.

The inking will mark the death of Graeme Arundel, who co-owned Scissors in Winyates, which celebrated its 40th anniversary on October 1.

The 59-year-old passed away from a heart attack just a day after the salon reached the milestone, leaving behind his wife Kay and children Chris and Beth.

Mr Arundel first opened the salon with his mother Betty in 1974.

His brother Michael joined three years later and the talented hairdresser went on to meet his future wife Kay there.

Now his family, as well as eight colleagues, will go under the needle for free at Mad Malc’s Tattoo Parlour where they will all have the same tattoo as the Astwood Bank resident.

Sian Turner, who has worked at the salon since 17, said Graeme would have wanted to mark the company’s anniversary and staff at salon were organising something in the new year.

“He loved the shop, it wasn’t just a job, it was his life.” she said.

“We were like one big family, he was always there for us, always making us smile with a tale to tell. He was like a father figure to me.

“He did a lot for the community and everyone knew him. He’d always wave at people and say hello, he was liked by everyone.”

His brother Michael said he wanted to thank all the present and past customers and staff for their support over the years, and he hoped the company would celebrate another 40 years.
