Pub hosts Dan’s Day fund-raiser

STAFF at a town centre pub were pulling in the donations as well as the pints as part of a fund-raising day in memory of a former colleague.

Dan Sanders tragically passed away after a battle with bowel cancer aged just 27, prompting the team at The Rising Sun on Alcester Street to organise ‘Dan’s Day’ in tribute to him.

The big event included staff taking part in the ice bucket challenge – having bins full of freezing cold water poured over them outside the pub by customers – and a sponsored indoor bike ride.

Team leader Andy Carr also helped raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer by having his hair and beard, which he has had for 15 years, shaved off.

There were also cakes and vodka jellies for sale which had been baked and made by the team, while bar magicians entertained punters with magic tricks.

Manager Cassie Harwood said: “We’re really pleased that so many came.

“Dan was such a big part of the community who was taken far too young at 27 and we want to continue to raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer in his memory.”

Anyone wishing to donate can visit www.beatingbowelcancer.org or use the red bucket in the pub itself.
