Publishing contract awaits the winner

A TOWN author could become Britain’s Next Bestseller with the help of bookworms in the borough.

Sarah Bates has put herself forward for the national competition where she could win a publishing contract if 250 people pre-order her book.

The Church Hill North resident has entered the challenge with her debut children’s book The Amazing Adventures of Roddy the Magic Cat which takes youngsters on a magical adventure to different countries across the world.

In the book Roddy travels to Nepal where he realises a lifelong dream to see Mount Everest and meets a dog called Hobo along the way who teaches him about life in the mountains.

The idea for the book, and others in the series, started on a 12 hour bus journey as she travelled through Laos in South East Asia in cramped and chaotic conditions.

Miss Bates said the stories were formed from her real life experiences whilst backpacking and the illustrations were based on the 15,000 photos she took whilst travelling.

She added they are stories of friendship, possibility and adventure, which she hoped would educate and inspire children to learn about places beyond their doorstep.

Sarah will be reading The Amazing Adventures of Roddy the Magic Cat – Mount Everest at Redditch Library tomorrow (May 3) at 11am.
