Ready for a well-earned rest

THE FACE of Macmillan’s town centre charity shop for more than two decades has stepped down.

Gill Taylor and her team have raised nearly £900,000 for cancer services since she took over as manager over 20 years ago.

She attended an event last week aimed at calling on more residents to volunteer at the Unicorn Hill shop, alongside former Macmillan Redditch Committee founder Alan Lipscomb, who started the shop with wife Patricia and Barbara Nash – who will now take on the role of manager.

Gill said: “It’s been a great experience and I’d encourage anyone to get involved if they have some time to spare and want to help a great charity.”

Kelly Whitehouse, fund-raising manager for Worcestershire, said: “We have some really interesting volunteer roles available for people who want to take on a new challenge, have fun or just want to help us raise the money we need to fund our cancer services.

“For most of our roles, volunteers don’t need to have special skills or experience.

“They just need to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

“We provide training if it’s needed and offer ongoing support to ensure all our volunteers get the best possible experience while helping us be there for people affected by cancer.”
