AFTER 16 years of service the Rector of St Peter’s will be made a Canon of Worcester Cathedral on Monday (April 27).

Revd. Garth Nathaniel, who is currently the Rural Dean in Bromsgrove, will be apppointed by The Right Revd. Lord Bishop of Worcester, Dr. John Inge in the Cathedral at 5.30pm.

At least 30 to 40 members of Ipsley parish will make the journey to Worcester in support of their Rector gaining his licensing service.

He said: “I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as a link between churches in our area and in Worcester.”

During his years of service in the Diocese of Worcester, Revd. Garth also acts as a link person on the Committee for Minority Ethinic Anglican Concerns.

In this role he works to address key issues for minority ethnic Anglicans and supports numerous racial justice organisations.

As a Canon Revd. Garth will meet with the Dean, The Very Reverend Dr Peter Atkinson, along with other members of the Chapter to discuss and advise the running of the Cathedral.

The appointment will also see Revd. Garth join The College of Canons, a body which brings opinion and questions from across Worcestershire and the Metropolitan District of Dudley.

The Revd. says his day to day work will not be affected by his license and he will continue to be based at St Peters.
