Redditch Alicia lets long locks go to others

AN INSPIRATIONAL little girl has donated 20 centimetres of her beautiful locks to a children’s cancer charity which makes wigs for youngsters who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Nine-year-old Alicia Fielder, from Greenlands, made the decision to cut off her tumbling tresses, which fell to the small of her back, in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair due to lifesaving treatment.

Proud mum Alison said it was an idea Alicia came up with last year but the Ridgeway Academy pupil was keen to give her hair a chance to grow some more before she cut it off.

“She came to me and said ‘I’d like to donate my hair because it’s bad enough the children have cancer but they have to lose their hair too’,” said Alison.

Alicia has raised more than £400, which covers the cost of a wig (£350) with room to spare to go towards a second.

The youngster faced the scissors at family friend Faye Herbert’s salon, with Faye lending her support to the cause which is very close to her heart.

Faye herself suffered a brain tumour and although she has now made a full recovery, she understands first hand how it feels to lose your hair.

Alison said: “She’s a very thoughtful and caring little girl so it didn’t surprise me when she told me what she wanted to do.

“We are so immensely proud of her.”
