REDDITCH blossomed for the Queen on her 90th birthday on Sunday (June 12) thanks to green-fingered volunteers.

The Church Hill Big Local Partnership filled two large planters and eight railing planters to brighten up the area in time for the celebrations.

Residents and councillors joined the team and got their hands dirty before the special planting event to honour Her Majesty on her special day.

Mayor Joe Baker said: “It’s fantastic to have an organisation like Church Hill Big Local who really care passionately about how their local area looks and who through their good works bring the community together.

“It’s also been uplifting to see how the older generation and young people have worked together passing on the skills they have learnt along the way.”

Wendy Johnson,Church Hill Big Local Chair, agreed: “It was lovely having so many children involved. You can tell how much they enjoyed themselves by how dirty they got.

“We would like to thank so many people – especially the sponsors of the planters but mostly, I would like to thank the community for coming together to brighten up the Centre.”
