REDDITCH and Bromsgrove Royal Marine Cadets Kyan Hopkin and Alex Ludlow representing the South West of England paddled their way to glory at the Sea Cadet National combined regatta recently, writes Klaudia Tarmasewicz.

The kayaking duo not only won through to the finals but earned a silver and a bronze medal at the event – out of 14,000 competing cadets.

This is the first time Redditch and Bromsgrove have ever had representatives getting through to national competition.

Commanding officer James Sanders said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement for our local unit.

“This is the first time we have ever got through to nationals, and the two cadets trained hard and performed well.

“They have done Redditch and Bromsgrove proud.”‘

The Redditch and Bromsgrove unit is currently recruiting for Royal Marines Cadets and applicants should be aged between 13 and 18.
