A COMMUNITY litter picking team in Redditch have collected items including a satellite dish, a frying pan and a pushchair.

The group of 25 people met at the old medical centre on Sunday (May 22) and were joined by Church Hill councillors Pat Witherspoon, Nina Wood-Ford and Bill Hartnett to help clean up the area around Loxley Close including a play area and bus lane.

Coun Hartnett said: “We got a great reception from residents as we went around and we had tea and cakes to round off a great morning.

“It was a real success and a great show of community spirit in Church Hill.”

People of all ages attended and a group of MacDonald’s staff also joined the Big Local event.

Wendy Johnson, chair of the lottery funded Big Local Partnership, said: “It’s great to see so many people get together like this to make Church Hill a better place to live.”

Big Local has also organised a plant and produce swap and sale this Sunday, May 29 at Willow Trees Community Centre from 9.30am to 12noon.

The Church Hill Big Local project aims to bring individuals, groups and organisations together to improve the local area.
