AN electrician at the Alexandra Hospital is celebrating after making his 400th blood donation.

David Stephens started giving blood about 30 years ago and after giving whole blood for several years he switched to blood coagulating platelets which he continues to give every few weeks.

The 57-year-old said he started the process with his family in mind, believing in might be used to help them one day.

“I would encourage people to go. It does not hurt. The more people who can donate the better. The more lives they can save.”
