Redditch jobs fair is soaring success

THE REDDITCH Jobs Fair was a soaring success with hundreds of people walking away with application forms and in some cases jobs to start the next week.

The event, which was organised by MP Karen Lumley, took place in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre on Friday (May 13) and filled Worcester Square with stalls ranging from London Midland Rail and KFC to the Armed forces and our own Redditch Standard.

Sophie Morris, from London Midland, said: “The fair has been great for us. We have had a lot of interest. “We have had a lot of people take application forms and we hope by the end of the day they will all be gone.”

Staff Sargeant John Cutler, from the Army recruitment stall, said the fair had been a great opportunity for them to tell people of the different roles they have on offer.

“There are 147 different jobs in the armed forces. We spoke to one woman who wanted to become a nurse and didn’t realise that was an option with us.”

One woman who stopped to speak to the Diamond Bus representatives went straight to the depot to carry out her tests and walked away with a job as a driver, which she started on Monday.

Mrs Lumley said: “The fair has been absolutely brilliant, by far my most successful jobs fair. A lot of people have shown a lot of interest.

“I have spoken with the representatives from The Kingfisher Shopping Centre and we will definitely be running the jobs fair annually.

“It has been such a success we are considering expanding it to the next square. What more can you ask for?”
