A REDDITCH man has been ordered to pay more than £400 in costs for trying to start a fight.

Dean Walker, of Oswestry Close, Walkwood, pleaded guilty at Redditch Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (October 20) to being aggressive on Unicorn Hill in the town centre.

Mark Soper, prosecuting, told the court the 28-year-old had left Fever nightclub on October 4, after it closed. Officers saw him with a group of friends causing some aggravation and warned him about his behaviour. A fight then broke out which Mr Soper said Walker instigated and he was arrested.

Walker, who was unrepresented, said: “I obviously had too much to drink. There’s no justification to be violent or aggressive.

“There was a person antagonising me. I acted wrongly. I should have gone home and avoided all this and done us all a favour.”

Chair of the bench, David Harding, said: “Although you have not been in trouble for some time, your record shows several other drunk and disorderly offences committed around the country and we will not tolerate it in Redditch.”

He fined Walker £100 and ordered him to pay £135 in prosecution costs, a £20 victim surcharge and a £150 court charge.
