REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley will be at the heart of decision making over the direction of health care in the UK.

Mrs Lumley, who increased her majority at the General Election earlier this month, has been appointed a Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Department of Health.

A delighted Mrs Lumley, who had hinted that she would shun any possibility of promotion, said only an issue close to her heart like health could have made her change her mind.

“Health is such an important issue in Redditch that it was the only job I would have wanted,” she said.

“I’m quite looking forward to it – it’s going to be a challenge but it is something that I passionately believe in and for me it it means I can hopefully be at the table when the decisions are made.

“I will certainly be making sure that we put the £8 billion we promised at the election into the health service.”

Mrs Lumley is visiting the Alexandra Hospital today, Friday, to talk to staff and to thank them for the work they do.

“I’ll also be sharing with them our plans for the the future because we want to secure as many services as we can and I’m hoping we will see many good services coming to the Alex,” she said.
