Redditch pensioner threatened at knifepoint by intruder

Redditch Editorial 19th Apr, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A REDDITCH pensioner was threatened with a knife by a man who had broken into her home yesterday (Monday).

The attacker forced his way into the 80-year-old woman’s house, on Bromsgrove Road, at about 3.30pm and grabbed her before threatening her with a blade.

A member of the victim’s family returned home and disturbed the man who then fled in the direction of the Queen’s Head pub with some of the woman’s money.

She was given medical attention but is not thought to have any injuries.

The intruder was a white male with a beard, who wore a grey hooded top and black woollen gloves.

Det Con Mark Lazenby said: “This was a vulnerable member of the community and it would have been an extremely frightening ordeal for her.

“When this offence took place it would have been busy on the roads with parents returning from the school run and I would urge anyone who saw a man in the area, matching the above description, to please call us on 101.

“We are continuing to make house-to-house enquiries and we would like to reassure the community this appears to be an isolated incident.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police on the non emergency 101 number or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
