A large audience gathered at the Palace Theatre to cheer on the contestants as they battled it out to be become heat winners in the four age group categories – 10 to 13, 13 to 16, 16 to 18 and 19-plus.

All the contestants proved once again there is a wealth of talent in the town with the programme featuring a variety of acts, ranging from singer songwriters, dancers, a magician and instrumentalists all performing to the highest standards.

In the end, the 10 to 13 age group was won by Amy Moynihan, a superb violinist – Nigel Kennedy look to your laurels! She was chosen for her lyrical playing and virtuosity.

The 13 to 16 age group winner was James Cookson a dancer. The judges thought he had showed great tenacity in his piece, with the whole sequence having a cool Billy Elliot feel to it.

The 16 to 18 age group winner was singer Elle Cross, the judges loving her interpretation of the song, stage presence and presentation.

In the 19+ age group singer/songwriter Paul Mitchell claimed the prize for the composition and interpretation of one of his own songs which drew the rapt attention of the audience.
