Redditch residents with a burning desire help can volunteer for firewalk

THOSE with a brave heart and a taste for heat are being urged to sign up for a charity firewalk in Redditch next month.

On July 30 The Oast House pub in Redditch will host the walk over burning embers where temperatures will reach 1200 degrees Fahrenheit – and all in the name of charity.

Money raised will go to The Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation which was set up by Rob and Maggie Underwood in 2011 to provide the local community with defibrillators.

Maggie said: “The more people we can get to do the walk and collect sponsorship money, the better chance we will have to get the community 24-hour access to defibrillators.”

The aim is to raise funds to buy enough defibrillators for Redditch to achieve heart-safe status.

If a community meets a set of requirements such as having public access defibrillators and resuscitation protocols for first responders and area hospitals, it may be classified at heart-safe.

Rob said: “Our main goal is to save lives. With access to defibrillators, people can have the best possible chance, but we need more – a lot more.

“We want to get one on every estate, in every school, every leisure centre, every shopping street.

“If we raise this money now, we could have the new defibrillators installed by the end of the year, and that will save lives.”

All participants will have a training session at 2pm before the walk across hot coals at 3pm.

Anyone interested in volunteering can go to [email protected] or call Rob on 07794 637073 for sponsorship forms.
