POLICE are urging resident to take extra care to protect their homes as the dark nights draw closer.

Redditch officers are warning people unlit houses make it clear no one is home, they recommend putting lights on a timer. Officers are also telling people to check their doors and windows are locked before leaving the home or going to bed and to set an alarm if possible.

They also advised not to keep valuable or keys near the doors or windows or leave tools in the garden which burglars could use to break into a property.

They currently have a special offer on their SmartWater security mark which leaves a traceable code in an invisible liquid on valuable items for £25.
