TWO SISTERS are taking the sporting world by storm – sprinting to success in a multi disciplines.
Natalie and Lucy Hatfield, who are students at St Bede’s Catholic Middle School (Academy), have enjoyed a very successful sporting few weeks, competing in London’s Mini Marathon and qualifying to compete in a World Series to name just two.
Year 7 pupil Natalie represented the county in the Mini London Marathon on April 23, coming 22nd out of the 246 runners.
The event is the official British Athletics three-mile road championships for young athletes aged between 11 and 17.
Lucy achieved a personal best in the race with an impressive 18 minutes and 34 seconds finishing first for team West Midlands and beating girls a year her senior.
And she’s hot on Natalie’s heels, set to travel to both Austria and Portugal to compete in both the Biathlete World Series, a continuous run, swim, run event, and the European Championships.
The ten-year-old qualified almost by accident after attending what the family thought was a training day last Sunday (May 1).
But the ‘training day’ led to Lucy qualifing to represent Great Britain in her first ever race – coming in second behind the current European champion.
