STAFF from Redditch Halfords have been rallying round and raising funds for a much-loved colleague who has been in a coma since a holiday accident.

Dave Winketts, who works at Halfords Support Centre in Redditch, was riding his bike in the French Alps when came off and fell 30 metres down a cliff.

The father-of-three was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble where he was treated for skull and spinal fractures, broken ribs, a dislocated ankle and a bleed on the brain.

Mr Winketts, age 43, was in a coma for more than two weeks and his concerned colleagues back in the UK quickly decided to do something to ease the financial strain on the family.

Colleague Laura Dangerfield said: “His wife is in France with him, but his children are still in the UK.

“It’s a really difficult time for them and we wanted to do something to ease the pressure on the family.”

The team have so far held a raffle, silent auction and a group of more than 30 cycled from Redditch to Stratford via the Cotswolds in his honour.

They are striving for the £5,000 mark and anyone wanting to support them can visit https://www.gofundme.com/2f5c6k9k
