Redditch Tablers kit out Repair Cafe

REDDITCH’S Repair Cafe received a massive boost on Saturday when big-hearted members of the town’s Round Table dropped off some new tools for them.

The Repair Cafe fixes, for free, household, electronic or garden items that are no longer working, but to do so it needs the expertise of local volunteers and the tools to do the job.

Thanks to groups like Age Concern’s Men in Sheds, they have the brains (but could always do with more help) and now thanks to Redditch Tablers they’ve got the kit too.

“We’re a locally-based charity and we look to give every penny we raise back into the Redditch community,” said Round Table chairman Simon Chalk.

“We got a really good deal on the tools and hopefully they will help the good people here do what they do.”

The Repair Cafe runs monthly at Inkberrow Design Centre, Britten House, Britten Street, off Bromsgrove Road, from 10am to 2pm. Repairs are free, although donations are always welcome and the kettle is always on in the cafe.

Redditch Round Table is renowned for its Santa Sleigh Run in December but all year round the big-hearted group gets together to have fun, enjoy beer and curries and raise much-needed funds for charity.

On the horizon is a tag rugby tournament, as well as a cricket match at Knowle & Dorridge CC on June 28.

The organisation is aimed at men aged 18-45 and more details are available on Facebook or turn up at K&D on the 28th.

For women, the Tablers have a sister organisation, the Redditch Kingfishers Ladies Circle. Details are again available via the internet.
