Redditch tops firearms amnesty

Redditch Editorial 13th Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THESE are just four of the 34 firearms handed in to Redditch Police Station in just under two weeks.

The amnesty, which ends on Sunday (November 16), has seen more guns and ammunition handed over at the borough’s Grove Street station than anywhere else in Worcestershire.

Redditch has also seen the highest amount of firearms surrendered in West Mercia, joint top with Shrewsbury.

In total 182 have been given in to stations across the West Mercia policing area.

Operation Magpie aims to reduce gun crime and anyone who hands over a weapon will not be required to leave any information, but it could be examined by police if they believe it is linked with a crime.

All the firearms will be destroyed apart from those which could have historical value and legal firearm owners can also hand in any weapons they no longer use.
