REDDITCH is going music mad this weekend with a packed programme of events on Church Green, in the bandstand, in Cafe Mambo, The Royal Enfield and further afield.
What’s more, it will all be free.
The Bandstand Festival fun starts on Friday night when indie-acoustic band NotSoMerry play the Mambo Cafe in Church Green East from 8pm while Voodoo Club, fronted by Jonny Edwards, take to the stage at the Easemore Road Club.
Then on Saturday there’s music from 11am til’ 4pm at the bandstand with a line-up boasting something for everyone featuring The Exiles (acoustic indie covers), local singer Tracy Hunt, rap artist Aaron Wilson, acoustic solo Paul Frizell, acoustic duo Imander, folk rock outfit Wychwood, singer / guitarist Sarah Mann, Redditch Gospel Choir, Americana band Fishheads and local star Stuart Wolfenden who will do a solo acoustic set.
At the same time there will be a bouncy castle, face painting, stalls and more on Church Green.
Organiser Steve Bartlett said: “The festival has grown out of last year’s So Redditch event and offers a great variety of music from rap to folk rock.
“We just want to give exposure to musicians in Redditch town centre and put Redditch on the music map.”
Moving on to the evening Cafe Mambo will be rolling out the marquee and taking over with their Silver Bullet Event hosted by Garth Kirkham of Black Tie Event who top the bill.
The music starts from 4pm and features Duo Imaner, Redditch’s Got Talent winner Emily Shackles, Jobby Capper, Mikey Marks, Max Round, James Payton, Lekka Vibe and Charlotte Tongue as well as BTE.
“All the bands are playing for free and it promises to be a great night of music and if it rains we can easily move into the marquee,” said Lesley Evans of Cafe Mambo which will also be open for food and drink throughout the evening.
Finally, at The Royal Enfield at the top of Unicorn Hill, Lee Rogers Rock and Roll Jukebox will be taking to the stage on Saturay night from 7pm playing authentic hits from the 50s including songs by Elvis, Eddie Cochrane and more for people to dance the night away.
Council Leader Bill Hartnett said: “There really is something for everyone.
“Whether it’s gospel or indie that gets your toes tapping, we can guarantee that this Saturday it will rock in Redditch!”
