THE PRINCIPAL of a Redditch school has reassured residents that refugee students are welcome and have been accepted.

Concerns were growing after the word spread a young refugee boy named Towan, had been refused admission by Tudor Grange Academy.

But principal Jodie Bolton, who took up her position within the school on September 1, said she had reviewed the case and the boy would be enrolled as soon as possible.

Mrs Bolton said: “As the new head, I have been made aware of previous correspondence between the school and an applicant.

“Having reviewed the information and applied our admission code and policy, Tudor Grange Academy can confirm that we are very pleased to offer Towan a place.

“Tudor Grange Academy Redditch is an inclusive school and we are very proud of the support we offer to all students. We are very much looking forward to Towan joining our growing community.”

The school has been in contact with Towan’s family and they now expect him he start classes in the next couple of weeks.
