Remember them on lantern walk

Redditch Editorial 27th Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS are invited to remember a loved one on a special lantern walk.

The event, which will take place on December 13 at Morton Stanley Park, has been organised by the charity Touchstones which works with bereaved children in the borough and Bromsgrove.

The organisation was set up by Vicki Quarton who works with children in schools who have lost family members.

A team of volunteers also advise families and schools on how to support young people through bereavements and take part in university research to improve counselling.

From 4.30pm all families are invited to pay tribute to someone by lighting a lantern and taking part in the short walk.

A minute’s silence will also be held, while hot drinks will be available and Father Christmas will be making a special visit.

The walk is suitable for all ages, as well as pushchairs.

Miss Quarton said: “I’ve been wanting to do this for quite a while now as it is such a lovely idea. It is just a really nice way of remembering someone and to be able to have a bit of fun at the same time.”

Lanterns cost £5 each to reserve and the money will cover the cost of the evening.

They can be reserved by e-mailing Vicki at [email protected] or calling 07743 143036.
