HUNDREDS of Redditch residents flocked to the Bandstand on Saturday (August 13) for the Rio comes to Redditch event and the family fun day.

The day was organised by Sue Yeng from the Banstand committee in partnership with Redditch Communities Together and Val Wilson, events organiser at Redditch Borough Council.

The public took part in pool, table tennis and workshops whilst the youngsters enjoyed the bouncy castle, face painting and circus skills. Not only that but there was live music and the opportunity to take part in Kerala dancing.

Council Leader Councillor Bill Hartnett (Church Hill, Lab) said: “We had a much younger audience this bandstand, we all had lots of fun in the sun at this family focused event.

“Next month sees the final bandstand of the year which is always spectacular and I’m sure it will be a great day.”

Mayor Joe Baker (Lab, Greenlands) also tried his hand at table tennis and Coun Pattie Hill (Lab, Batchley and Brockhill) gave the Indian dancing a go alongside Coun Harnett.

Val Wilson said: “It was great to see so many people at the school holiday family fun event. We tried to make it a fun and inexpensive day out and it went down well.”

On Saturday September 17 the town’s family festival will be held at the bandstand as the last event of the year. There will be a children’s fancy dress procession and Tommy Wilson’s Funfair at the cultural event of music, performance, foods, stalls and activities.
