Rooting out ‘old UKIP’

THE VIEWS expressed by a former borough councillor represent the old UKIP, Nigel Farage has insisted.

Dave Small was booted out of the party and forced to resign just days after winning the Church Hill seat under the UKIP banner, after online postings of his were revealed branding homosexuals perverts and containing alleged racist comments.

When asked if the party had done enough to root out people with such views Mr Farage said he believed they had done ‘pretty well’ but there would always be one or two party members who were ‘pretty angry about life’ which was not unique to them.

“As for that councillor, it wasn’t what we want to see, but you have got Labour councillors going to prison for paedophilia which doesn’t even make the national newspapers so a sense of perspective is needed with this.” he said.

“We have kept out all the BNP influences and even changed the constitution to stop them joining so I think we have done pretty well but, are there one or two UKIPers out there who scream and shout a bit, of course there are, but they reflect old UKIP, not new UKIP which is very optimistic, very pragmatic and a lot younger too.”
