THE charity Sustrans is leading a bike ride picnic in Redditch this Saturday (August 8) as part of celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the National Cycle Network.
The leisurely ride for all ages will begin at the Visitor Centre at the Arrow Valley Park (B98 0LJ) at 9.45am and finish at the same point at around 1pm.
Ride leader Roger will take people on a relaxing tour of the quieter roads and cycle paths of Redditch and there will be a picnic stop on the way – and riders are asked to bring their own picnic.
Sustrans created the National Cycle Network, which is 14,000 miles of cycle and walking paths, much of which is traffic-free. NCN Route 5 passes through the Redditch area.
Riders are asked to wear suitable clothing for the weather, bring sun protection and waterproofs. All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Yvonne Gilligan, regional director for Sustrans West Midlands said: “There are some great cycle and walking routes as part of the National Cycle Network, and we hope this led cycle ride will help more people to get out and enjoy them.
“There are lots of cycling events for families in the West Midlands so please get in touch with the Sustrans Birmingham office if you’d like to find out more!”
