Safer sleep is week’s aim

REDUCING the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is the focus of an awareness week backed by Redditch Early Help.

The organisation, which works with families across the borough, is working with health visitors for The Lullaby Trust’s Safer Sleep Week (March 16 to 23) to ensure parents are aware of the issues.

SIDS claims the lives of around five babies every week in the UK but the Lullaby Trust is aiming to halve this number in the next five weeks.

During the week, health visitors will hand out competitions to those with babies under four months, with the winner getting a free baby massage session.

Health visitor Alison Dobson said: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to highlight the importance of Safer Sleep and to help to ensure that new families get good sound advice in order to keep their families safe and sound. Our advice can save babies’ lives.”

Liz Griffiths, early years and parenting operational manager, added: “We are really pleased the Redditch health visitors are coming to talk to parents about this extremely worthy cause. This is an important message to get across.”
