FORMER Great British Sewing Bee contestant and Create and Craft TV guest presenter Jenniffer Taylor will be delivering a special made-to-measure workshop at a Redditch sewing school as part of a national campaign to highlight the importance of independent sewing schools and haberdashers.

Sew Saturday is a campaign formed by Sew Magazine to encourage the public to support their local stores and Inkberrow Design Centre (IDC), together with new, local fabric retailer, Fabricology, are hosting a series of events to showcase what’s on offer here in Redditch.

Taking place at the IDC Britten Street premises, Jenniffer will deliver a Made-to-Measure workshop that will provide sewers with tips on achieving the best fit, as well as how to create a head-to-toe body profile. The sewers will then use their measurements to create a top or dress without a pattern.

“Sew Saturday is the perfect opportunity to head down to your local haberdashery or bricks and mortar fabric store, but more importantly, I hope to get you sewing!” said Jenniffer. “This year I’ll be taking part by running a #sewingrevolution workshop at IDC, which is also my local independent training centre for arts and crafts.

“It’s a wonderful hive of creative activity and wares. I truly believe that creativity is contagious and therefore I’m keen to play my part.”

During the day, the centre will also be running an overlocker workshop, advice on working with jersey fabrics, displays of couture clothing, as well as a fabric sale run by Fabricology.

Brenda Killigrew, director of IDC, said: “Sew Saturday is a fantastic initiative and the activities we will have on during the day provide an insight into the creative workshops, courses and suppliers we are able to provide to those interested in either looking at sewing or textiles for the first time, right through to more advanced sewers.”
