A BOROUGH restaurant has been named among the best in the West Midlands after competing in a contest dubbed the ‘battle of the baltis’.

Shahi Palace was named runner-up in the region in the Masterchef Promotions Awards 2015 cook off finals.

Chef Modabbir Ahmed went head-to-head with chefs from across the country in a 60 minute cooking contest in a bid to be named the top restauarant in their region.

During the contest they were tested on their skills, presentation, effort, hygiene and taste by a panel of celebrity chefs and food critics.

Chef Chad Rahman, a two time winner of the C.I.E.H – FSA National Curry Chef of The Year title, said those who took part had demonstrated outstanding culinary excellence and professionalism.

“There was an exceptional high standard of complex flavour combinations, creativity, originality and presentation to tantalise the taste buds.”

The Unicorn Hill based restaurant was the only one from Redditch to take part and owner Ash Miah said they would be bidding to go one better next year.

“We’ve won many awards before but this is the first time we have entered anything like this and I’m delighted with our achievement.”
