THE West Midlands Regional 5-a-side football tournament proved a runaway success for squad from Special Olympics Redditch.

Held at the Studley Sports Centre, eight teams from across the Midlands came together in a spirited competition involving mixed teams competing across four ability bands – Advanced, Average, Moderate and Novice.

Awards were made for all groups with both team and individual medals and trophies up for grabs.

Redditch entered two teams, both of which won Silver medals with the A team going on to win Gold in the Cup knockout and to add to the occasion borough deputy mayor Councillor Joe Baker was on hand to present the prizes.

Ron Daykin of Special Olympics Redditch said: “The event was made a success by all the volunteers who gave up their Sunday to support and manage the event.”
