Special Olympics Redditch in volunteer plea

Redditch Editorial 24th Jul, 2016 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

WITH the Olympic Games just weeks away, Special Olympics Redditch is appealing for volunteers to make a special difference to local people with learning difficulties.

The group has more than 60 athletes on its books and is looking for anyone who can spare a couple of hours on a Monday evening at Trinity High School to help out.

All willing volunteers are welcome, in particular anyone with a swimming or football qualification, said Special Olympics Redditch chairman Ron Daykin.

“If there is anyone out there whether they are qualified or not we would be more than keen to hear from them,” he said.

“The volunteers are the key to everything here, without them nothing works – the more volunteers the more sports we can run and the more choice we can offer.”

Special Olympics Redditch is recognised nationwide and runs a series of athletics, football and swimming events attracting competitors from across the country to the town.

“I would say to people thinking of helping us come on down and take a look, it’s not for everyone but if they have a passion for it we can all benefit,” added Ron.

The appeal comes as Special Olympics GB launches a new ‘Play Unified’ video illustrating the vital role volunteers play in making sport fun for all.

Special Olympics Redditch trains from 6pm to 8pm at Trinity High School on Monday evenings and would-be volunteers are welcome to come down and take a look, or alternatively email Ron on [email protected] .
