A SPECIALIST court for victims of domestic abuse is being re-launched at Redditch Magistrates’ court on Monday (August 1)
The weekly Specialist Domestic Violence Court (SDVC) will deal with domestic abuse offences committed in Worcestershire and aims to provide a less traumatic experience for victims from the moment they report their situation to the police right through to giving evidence in court.
Specially trained police officers, prosecutors, court service staff, probation officers and Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVA) will work together to support victims of domestic abuse.
Martin Lakeman, Strategic Coordinator for domestic abuse in Worcestershire said: “We know that by having domestic abuse cases interspersed with other crimes and court cases that victims do not always get the service they deserve.
“It takes tremendous courage to report abuse and we need to do all we can to ensure the criminal justice system continues to support victims. The launch of this specialist court is a positive move forward.”
Men and women suffering from or concerned about domestic abuse can contact police on 101 or call the 24 hour domestic abuse helpline on 0800 980 3331
