Sports project up for an award

A PROJECT aimed at getting more disabled people into sport has been nominated for a regional award.

The Make it Like Mandeville scheme is led by Redditch Borough, Bromsgrove and Wyre Forest District councils and is aimed at providing specialist training to disabled people and carers through coaching and volunteering placements, as well as improving local disability sports.

A total of £80,000 from Sports England Inclusive Sport programme has been ploughed into the project and more than 125 disabled people have already benefited as a result.

The project was crowned Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership’s Community Project of the Year earlier this month and was nominated for a West Midlands Community Sports Award.

They were due to find out the result at a ceremony at Aston Villa FC yesterday (November 27).

By the time the project finishes in 2016 the aim is to provide activity for everyone aged 14 and over within 15 minutes of where they live and to make it easier for people to find out how to access activities.
