Still waiting for postbox

Redditch Editorial 8th Dec, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

RESIDENTS are still fighting for the return of their postbox a year after the old one was removed.

When the £3.55million revamp of Church Hill District Centre took place at the end of 2013 everything was moved across the

road including the shops and medical centre – however the postbox was left standing and eventually demolished to make way for new houses on the site.

As a result residents now have to queue up just to post a letter at the Post Office branch in McColl’s newsagent in the centre or go to Cleeve Close or Ridings Lane to send mail out of hours.

And despite residents regularly contacting Royal Mail about the situation a new box has not yet been installed.

Val Bodden, spokeswoman for Royal Mail, said: “Our intention is to reinstate the postbox across the road but our initial site proved to be unsuitable due to the presence of underground utility cables at the proposed location.

“We are now looking at another nearby site and we apologise to customers for the temporary inconvenience to their postal services.”

Anyone with any concerns should call the customer services team on 03457 740740.
