CREATING a sandwich packed full of tasty ingredients has landed borough students third place in a business competition.

The team from St Augustine’s High School made the final of Subway’s Design A Sub challenge after creating their six-inch Rainbow Supreme sub.

Robyn Jackson, Clemmie Walker, Kareena Julier and Anisha Jacob created the unique sandwich which was designed to be both healthy and nutritious, as it is part of the brand’s low fat subs range.

Their Rainbow Supreme sub included turkey breast, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, peppers and honey mustard sauce on Italian white bread.

They then pitched their idea to a panel of experts at Birmingham City Football Club on Monday (November 17) alongside five other schools from across the area, winning a share of £500 Apple vouchers after impressing the judges.

Tim Grogan, head of business and ICT at the school, said: “The students really enjoyed taking part in the challenge. It gave them a tangible experience of how business works and the skills needed to see a project through to fruition. They did a fantastic job.”

Gurpal Showker, chair of the judging panel, said: “All the pupils did a brilliant job and we were extremely impressed with their pitches and the creativity of their ideas. They demonstrated a high level of thought and creativity when devising their business plans and had obviously worked extremely hard. They should be very proud to have got so far in the competition.”
