Tanzania update: It’s sunny, hot and inspiring

IN TRUE British fashion, we ought to talk about the weather!

Well, during our whole stay in Tanzania, the weather is very predictable: Sunshine, very occasional cloud, the occasional sparse shower, with daytime temperatures in the current ‘cool’ season (which is our summer) up to the early 30s degrees C. Near the coast, humidity is high.

On the Sunday, we were able to enjoy a service at a rural Baptist church, Imekuwa. It was a joy to share in the exuberant worship, and we were able to exchange gifts from and to Cookhill Baptist Church, which is developing a friendship link with this church.

After the service, we shared a church lunch cooked over charcoal under nearby cashew nut trees. This comprised rice, a delicious tomato-based chicken stew with potato and coconut milk, cabbage and beans.

Being coastal, people in the Mtwara area eat lots of fish. Meat, however, is relatively expensive and eaten sparingly. For many, the source of protein is from peas, beans and lentils.
