TEAM GB triathlete Hannah Drewett is saddling up to join the Ride for Rory bike event from the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch next Saturday (September 12) – and everyone is invited to join her on the fund raising pedal.
Last year over 120 people took up the challenge in aid of the £1.6 million Rory the Robot appeal to buy a robot surgical system for patients suffering from prostate cancer and organisers are hoping even more will take to the beautiful Worcestershire countryside for the cause.
On offer is a comfortable 18 mile family route and a leg stretcher for more experienced cyclists.
“We decided to add in another larger route this year on the back of conversations we had with a number of local cycling clubs,” said organiser Craig Burchell.
“As a result the Rory 52 Miler was born and will be available on the day for club cyclists and those really brave.”
The event is being supported by Redditch bike shop Speeds Cycles in Windsor Road, who also sponsor Hannah and she’ll be there to mix with the riders and chat to the crowd and offer encouragement.
“On the day itself the plan is to encourage cyclists to get to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for registration at 9am, with cyclists then setting off between 9am and 9.30am on the 52 mile route,” said Craig.
“The second phase of registrations will not start until 10am and this will be for cyclists taking part in the more family-orientated route. Speeds Cycles have also offered to support cyclists on the day with a Bike Doctor tent and cycling help and advice. There will also be refreshments as well,” added Craig.
Registration is £10 for adults and £5 for children andorganisers are hoping adults will raise a minimum of £80 sponsorship and children £20.
