Test yourself on cycling lap

GO-FASTER cyclists can ride the same route as the professionals when the Pearl Izumi tour Series comes to Redditch on Tuesday, May 19.

The Reddi Hot Lap pits riders over the 0.9 mile circuit in a race against the clock with prizes on offer for the fastest lap.

It all forms part of what promises to be a fantastic celebration of cycling right here in Redditch which culminates in a feast of town centre racing.

The fun starts at 2pm when local schools take to the race track in their very own challenge, before things get a bit more serious at 3.30pm when teams of four from local businesses – including your very own Redditch Standard – face the challenge of scaling the 250 metres of Unicorn Hill.

The event, sponsored by the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, will be timed with the third rider across the line counting, and everyone is welcome to line the route and cheer the riders on.

It’s then on to the Reddi Hot Lap at 4pm, sponsored by BWA Commercial, a pure and simple race against the stopwatch over the same route as the professionals and an ideal opportunity to measure yourself against the best in the country.

There will be plenty of entertainment on tap too as well as the Events Village on Church Green featuring a host of exciting stalls.

It will then be time for the first leg of the women’s Matrix Fitness Grand Prix which is likely to attract some of the biggest names in British cycling and there will be a chance to see the riders informally as they warm up before the starting gun is fired at 6pm.

After an hour of furious racing it’s the turn of the men for the second round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series featuring the team of Bradley Wiggins and possibly the presence of the former Olympic, World and Tour de France winner himself.

Whether he appears of not the cameras from ITV4 will be there to film the whole event of what promises to be a fantastic day cycle racing.
