BOROUGH residents witnessed the first eclipse in more than ten years today (Friday).
The spectacle began about 8.25am before plunging the town into darkness about 9.30am and ending at 10.40am.
Workers, residents and school pupils descended onto the streets to get a glimpse of the phenomenon, while some even managed to snap pictures.
A solar eclipse can only happen at new moon, when the moon directly blocks sight of the sun from certain places in the world. It can take place up to five times a year.
