THE REVAMP of an eyesore building will be completed today (Friday) with the opening of a new chicken restaurant the owners say will challenge their big name rival.
Pepe’s Piri Piri has opened in the other half of the former Jade Garden Building which for six years was a blot on the landscape after being gutted by fire in 2008.
Pizza chain Papa John’s opened in one half of the building just before Christmas creating 20 new jobs and up to another 15 have been generated by franchisees Zeeshan Malik and Nasir Parvaiz who have opened up Pepe’s next door.
The restaurant will be able to seat up to 30 diners and take away can also be ordered. It serves a variety of piri piri flame grilled chicken dishes amongst other items.
Mr Malik said: “We’re both local, I’ve lived here 12 years and Nasir for 15 years so we wanted to provide our community with something healthy to eat.”
Mr Parvaiz added: “People say it is tastier than Nando’s”.
