A CHURCH Hill resident stepped out onto the streets of the second city to raise funds for the hospital which helped his son.

Tom Sheppard completed the Birmingham Half Marathon on Sunday (October 19) in one hour 49 minutes and 23 seconds, raising £450 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The 26-year-old, who only started running in May, said: “I chose the Birmingham Half Marathon as my first one because I thought it would be great to support a good local charity. My son has attended the hospital a few times and I thought it would be great to give something back.”

Mr Sheppard is now preparing for the Greater Manchester Marathon in April.

Of all the Redditch runners registered in the race, Joseph Smith was the top-performing man from the borough crossing the line in one hour 13 minutes and 49 seconds while Kerry Sherlock was the first Redditch woman to finish in one hour 35 minutes and three seconds.
