THE much anticipated Asda Redditch store opened its doors on Monday when more than 1,000 excited customers and colleagues joined local VIPs and dignitaries for the official ribbon cutting.

Local prostate cancer fund raiser, Emma Wheate-Price, who has raised more than £10,000 through her belly dancing group, was invited by colleagues to officially open the new superstore on Jinnah Road, following a search for a local hero.

Emma, who juggles fund raising with family life and looking after twin four year old boys, was presented with a £100 Asda gift card for performing the official ribbon cut.

Other special guests included the Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Pattie Hill, and the local choir Bel Canto Singers – along with more than 1,000 shoppers.

Store manager, Kevin Prince, said: “It was a pleasure for Emma to open our new store.

“She really stood out to us, her commitment to charity fund raising has been fantastic and she has helped so many great causes over the years.

“We were delighted that the Mayor of Redditch and the community could join us for the opening of the store, which will make a huge difference to local people.”

Emma said: “I’m over-the-moon to open the new store. I was completely shocked when they told me!

More than 300 new jobs have been created for local people at the new £30 million 40,000 square foot store, where customers can expect to find everything they need for a quick dinner to a full weekly shop.
