A FORMER mayor described as ‘Mrs Batchley’ has passed away.

Dot Dudley, who died on Monday (January 5) and was widowed with two daughters, had been a borough councillor in the ward she lived in from 1997 to 2008 and was the town’s mayor in 2001.

She also stood as a Worcestershire County Councillor for Redditch North from 2005 to 2009 and was a volunteer for Redditch Credit Union for many years.

Borough council leader Bill Hartnett said he served with Dot for many years on the housing committee and she had a keen interest in planning.

“She was very quietly spoken and just got on with her work. She loved her ward and the people of Batchley who returned her several times.” he said.

“This is a sad loss to the borough. Dot was still highly regarded in the ward and will be remembered very warmly and fondly within the membership of the council.”

Coun Robin Lunn, who was a councillor in Redditch North for four years alongside Dot, said: “She served her community for many, many years both on the borough and county councils. Dot had a particular interest in public transport and did an awful lot for people in Batchley.

“She will be sadly missed and I look forward to paying tribute to her at full council next Thursday. I liked and admired her very much.”
